I just watched part of Swamp People Season 6 and Troy got bit by an alligator twice and he had to go to the hospital and he couldn’t go hunting again for a week so it wouldn’t get infected. Troy knew that he had to listen to the doctor but at the same time he knew that he had to fill all his tags this year because he’s got 500 tags to fill. The last time he got bit by the alligator he was lifting it into the boat and they thought it was dead but it wasn’t. That’s why when the alligator hunters should shoot the alligator twice just to make sure that the alligator is dead. Too many alligator hunters have gotten the alligator in the boat, the alligator was just stunned, and the alligator tries to attack them but they shoot it just in time but not all the time are they going to be that lucky. Also several times I have seen that the shooter could have killed the alligator before they had to wrestle with the alligator but they don’t because they won’t look as good if they just shot the alligator without a fight. If they would just shoot the alligator as soon as it surfaced then they wouldn’t be putting lives in danger. Most of the people that are hunting are family. That wouldn’t be a good feeling to have if you know that you could’ve shot the alligator before the fight and then your family member got pulled into the water by the alligator.
In Season 6 they have a Bounty for the biggest gator caught. I think that is a good idea because it gets the hunters to go for the big gators and that helps the community to feel safer when they see that the big gators are getting caught. One con about the bounty is that the hunters forget to fill their tags and they just try and go for the bounty gator. That affects their next year hunt too because then they won’t be able to get as many tags as the wanted to. If they didn’t get the number of tags as they wanted then their income from hunting the gators isn’t going to be as good as what it would’ve been if they would’ve focussed on their tags instead of the bounty.
